Was Actually Earned
Creatine's longevity claims hold up under real scrutiny — a useful example of genuine evidence versus marketing.
Most confident claims about health and performance don't survive close scrutiny. It's worth noticing, then, the rare case where a claim actually does — because recognizing the difference is a skill, not a coincidence.
Creatine has three decades of research behind it, including a real FDA safety classification and, more recently, studies specifically on aging populations rather than just athletes chasing gym performance. That's a meaningfully different evidence bar than most trending supplements clear, and it's worth understanding exactly why this one earned its confidence while so many others haven't.
This is also a useful template for evaluating any confident claim, in health or otherwise: look for research on the actual population making the claim, real safety data at real doses, and independent replication. Here's what that looks like applied to creatine specifically.

That's not a dismissal of NMN's future potential. It's a statement about which supplement currently has the stronger evidentiary claim to the word "proven," and creatine wins that specific comparison clearly and by a wide margin.
The Part the Supplement Industry Still Manages to Ruin
Even with creatine's genuinely strong evidence base, the supplement industry has found ways to layer unnecessary complexity and cost on top of a compound that's fundamentally simple and cheap.
Creatine monohydrate — the plain, original, extensively studied form — remains, according to the actual research literature, the gold standard. Some of those additional ingredients have genuine, if less extensively studied, supporting research of their own. But the honest framing here matters: you're paying a substantial premium for a bundled product built around a genuinely excellent, extremely cheap core ingredient, and it's worth knowing that distinction clearly before deciding whether the added ingredients are worth the markup for your specific situation, rather than assuming the premium packaging itself signals additional efficacy.
What This Actually Teaches About Reading Supplement Claims
The useful skill here isn't "take creatine, skip everything else" — plenty of other supplements have real, if less extensively documented, evidence behind them too. The actually valuable skill is learning to distinguish the specific signals that separate a genuinely evidence-backed claim from a well-marketed one, because those signals are consistent and learnable across categories.
Look for research conducted specifically on the population making the claim — creatine's aging-focused research is recent and specific to older adults, not just extrapolated from decades-old bodybuilder studies. Look for safety data at the actual doses and durations being sold, not just short-term studies conveniently truncated before any downside might show up. Look for independent replication across multiple research groups rather than a single company-funded study driving all the marketing copy.
